She also achieved a Silver medal in the Vault, and Bronze Medals in the Uneven Bars and Floor Exercise, triumphing with the most awards by any athlete at the 1984 Olympics.
The following year, she was inducted into the USOC Olympic Hall of Fame, and in 1997, was inducted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame.
Where are they now?
An outspoken Christian and conservative, the former gymnast delivered the Pledge of Allegiance during the 2004 Republican Convention.
Now you can hear her on live broadcast analyzing young gymnasts on television. Her book, Her Gateways To Happiness: 7 Ways to a More Peaceful, More Prosperous, More Satisfying Life is co-written with David Bender.
She is married with four daughters in Texas.

Mary Lou and her family moved from Houston to West Virginia in 2009. Mary Lou is originally from W. Virignia and her husband, Shannon Kelley, a former University of Texas quarterback, will take an assistant coaching position at Fairmont State University.
